    Sensitive Skin

    Sensitive skin easily breaks out in rashes, is blotchy, itchy and stings in response to the products and external factors like weather / food. You can see redness, dryness, scaling, peeling, bumps and hives. We recommend seeing a dermatologist to rule out any serious allergies, then you can start looking at skincare that works for you.

    When a product says it is good for sensitive skin, it means that it is free from known common allergens. Everyone is different and so always be careful and do a patch test first. Use a cotton bud to place the product behind your ear for 24-48 hours. If you are just out the shower then wait 15 minutes until you skin is at a normal state before putting it on. A product saying it is for sensitive skin can also mean that it has ingredients that are soothing and calming for the skin. This is a good starting place for people with sensitive skin.

    The most common factors that can cause sensitive skin are topical products, environment, gut imbalance and what we eat. Sensitive skin can look red, irritated and burn quickly in the sun. It can feel sensitive to touch and also feel hot. Sensitive skin often comes along with another skin concern like dry or oily skin and can be quite unpredictable, meaning it is fine one day but not the next.

    If you have many allergies and are very limited in the skincare that you can use then we have products that are super clean and very small ingredients list that would be a great place to start.

    We recommend;

    Savon Stories Rhassoul Clay – For hypersensitive skin you can use this on your face, body and hair. It is used to detox, clear and replenish skin by mixing this one ingredient with water to make a mud treatment.

    Savon stories – Moroccan Black Soap – This 100% organic soap is used to relieve troubled skin, Smooth & revitalise, remove make-up, stop itchiness and prevent in-grown hair. This three-ingredient product is a nice all over body treatment for itchy skin to be soothed.

    Skin & Tonic – Make up Remover – This is a 5 ingredient, light weight product using unscented oils. This gentle makeup remover can tackle waterproof mascara, yet it’s so clean, you can even use it as a light face and body oil. For super sensitive skin you can even use it as a warm cloth cleanser. Even for non sensitive skins, it can remove heavy makeup and leave you skin feeling soft.

    Skin & Tonic – Naked Beauty Oil- A gentle face oil that is super food for your skin. No essential oils and unscented. This five-ingredient face oil has nutrient-rich rosehip fruit and seed oils, known for their skin healing properties.

    Skin & Tonic – Naked Lip Balm – We can have allergies for skincare and dietary, yet people forget to look at the ingredients on their lip balm. This lip balm has 3 ingredients leaving you with nourished lips with no worries.  It is 100% Natural, 100% Organic, Vegetarian, Gluten & Dairy Free.

    If you suffer from scaly rough patches like super dry skin or eczema, it means the skins barrier is not working properly. We recommend looking for skincare that is high in humectants, rich in plant oils. Natural Humectants help attract water to the surface of the skin but also deliver hydration and nutrients to the deeper levels.

    Natural Humectants are;

    Aloe – Penetrates the skin deeply and quickly.

    Honey – Has a natural ability to hold onto water.

    Hyaluronic Acid - A natural molecule found in the body that helps hydrate cells and cushion joints/eyeballs and skin. It naturally holds on to water and changes depending on humidity levels.

    Glycerin – Naturally in every cell so this ingredient is easily absorbed by the skin. This also has great benefits of deep hydration.

    We recommend;

    Savon Stories Lotion Melt Renewal concentrate – This is a body lotion. The bar melts from the heat of your body. It is specifically for eczema discomfort and is also nice to use as a massage lotion.

    Skin & Tonic Calm Balm Apply to dry or cracked skin for a moisture boost, or use as a barrier balm to protect against extreme weather or temperatures. It is also very popular with yoga or to help calm the mind and get to sleep.

    Josh Rosebrook Vital Balm Cream – High in Aloe and plant oils it is very powerful moisturiser This multi-benefit moisturiser supports true skin health and beauty by facilitating maximum cellular hydration, repair, and restoring vital skin function. With its balm texture, a little goes a long way.

    If you experience burning, stinging or itching, then it's your body's way of talking to you. After a visit from the doctor, it is good to think about active ingredients in skincare. Maybe you are using a cleanser with active exfoliation and a serum with exfoliation ingredients as well. This double exfoliation is too much for the top layer of skin, making it react. Or maybe you have small red bumps under the skin surface. This is usually an allergic reaction. Going back to basics and using a simple skincare routine with non-irritating ingredients can stop confusing the skin and finally go into repair mode.

    We recommend;

    Dr Barbra Sturm Calming Serum - An effective concentrate that contains an active, plant-based complex of Cardiospermum, Echium and Sunflower to rebalance and calm irritated skin and help reduce redness and burning. The calming serum strengthens the skin’s natural defenses, minimizing the skin’s sensitized reaction. Purslane, a key active ingredient used in this range by Dr. Sturm, activates the skin’s own anti-oxidant system, calms inflammation and protects sensitive cell membranes against free radical attack. The serum is ideal for rebalancing skin that is stressed as a result of sun exposure, sleep loss, jet lag, air conditioning, and exposure to smoke or environmental pollution.
